FAQ

Do we sell separate rims?
No we only sell complete wheels becourse hubs and rims are designed together.

Is the Sinus carbon tube wheel only for crossers?
No it is just a normal road wheel used often in cross becourse it is light and stiff.

Do we have dealer prices?
No because we sell directly to customers

Can we send wheels by post?
Yes most of our wheels are sent by post in Europe.

what’s included in a wheel set?
A pair of Aluminium skewers.
A few spare spokes/nippels
Hex nipple driver

Is it possible to buy the front/rear wheel separate?

Yes it is possible see price list

Why don’t we use woven carbon?
Most people only know carbon fiber in a woven form; it has a kind of blocked motive.
But carbon fiber is originally a roving of minuscule fibers. This can be 12K this means 12000 monofilaments are used to form a bundle also called a roving.
By laying more rovings near each other, spreading them out and impregnating them with special epoxy a so-called UD (unidirectional) prepreg is made.
By stacking multiple layers of UD prepreg a laminate is made. By defining the angles for each of the fiber layers stiffness also strength can be defined this is called anisotropy best done with UD prepreg.
By using a woven prepreg lots of fibers are laying in the wrong direction most of the times under 90 degrees. Working this way will not give the maximum strength results in carbon construction. The other disadvantage of woven cloth fiber bundles are that they are not laying flat but crossed over, creating small gaps filled with epoxy resin in this way creates useless extra weight.

What is a prepreg?
A prepreg is an impregnated piece consisting of multiple fibers in bundles. This can be unidirectional carbon fibers or woven carbon cloth.
It is made by dipping fibers in a prepreg-resin bath followed by a rolling machine pressing out excess resin. So all fibers are completely impregnated and then covered with silicon paper to prevent sticking to each other after which they are rolled on big spools.
The resin used consisted of three parts which when mixed is already getting solid. So these prepreg rolls are stored in freezers to slow down the hardening process otherwise these expensive rolls are only usable for a few weeks.
So a prepreg is a sticky piece of fiber bundles hand laid in diverse ways in metal moulds to form a carbon part after curing (backing in an oven) these are so called thermo hardeners are not formable again after heating. What is a composite?
A composite consists of two or more different materials with different properties together forming a new material with multiple outstanding properties of the single elements.
So mostly it consists of epoxy resin in combination with fibers like: carbon glass or Kevlar

What is a carbon fiber?
Carbon fiber also called graphite fiber is made from PAN (polyacrylonitrile) in a highly complicated proces a thread is extruded followed by a carbonization proces at 2000 to 3000 degrees Celsius. These fibers are recognizable by their black color.

Why are the nipples hidden in the carbon rims?
On most of our wheel sets we use reverse mounted nylock nipples. In this way we do not weaken the rim by drilling 4.5mm big holes in the reinforced carbon area at the top of the rim.
Instead we use 2.5mm holes so more strength/stiffness stays in the rim

What is a laminate?
A laminate is an amount of stacked fibers layers pre-mixed with epoxy resin together forming a matrix.
